This month, we are proud to be hosting the RPG Blog Carnival!

The Carnival is a special collaboration among bloggers in the RPG community.  Now in its 14th year, the RPG Blog Carnival travels across different blogs monthly, connecting readers with various viewpoints and ideas on that month’s RPG-based theme and topic.

For readers, blogger carnivals are a great way to explore a topic in more depth and be introduced to new blogs and creators. Be sure to check out last month’s carnival, hosted by Rising Phoenix Games, on the topic of Here be Dragons.

As a blogger, you can participate by writing an article on the month's topic on your site. Drop a link in the comment section below, which will be included in the month-end round-up of all participants. Make sure to read and comment on the posts of others as well. If you are interested in connecting with other RPG bloggers, consider joining the over 200-member strong RPG Blog Alliance.

This month’s topic is Character Development. Here are some ideas to get that creativity and ideas flowing:

Character development throughout a campaign.

  • How do your characters evolve from their initial design to become your favorite (or least favorite) characters after years of play?

  • How do your characters develop as they level? Do you have a system for character advancement vs. character development?

How do our characters impact us as players?

  • What roles does character development play in our engagement and enjoyment of the game?

  • What can we learn about ourselves through our RPG characters?

What are your tips for making great characters in RPGs?

  • What’s your experience with playable homebrew character creation?

  • What are some of the best practices or most overlooked issues when creating new RPG characters and developing them throughout the game?

To participate, be sure to include your links in the comments below. And as a reader, please join us on this month’s RPG Blog Carnival’s adventure.

Check back often throughout the month to see more posts, and make sure to see the round-up of all participants to be published at the end of August.

Happy Adventuring!
