My Holiday Wish For D&D Players

This holiday season, as the winter sun shines its dim yellow hue,

I wanted to send you this holiday wish for better and brighter holidays in 2022.

Whether you enjoy to explore and set sail along the Sword Coast,

Or prefer the view of the Golden Sea from your ship’s high sternpost,

For those that seek the Sisters’ snowy peaks in the Spine,

To others that Giants of the Black Ash try to confine,

Whether you play in the frigid lands of Icewind Dale,

Or it is the barren lands of the Bandit Wastes that you travail,

This is my blessing and holiday desire,

For you, the adventurer, for next year to acquire:

May you seek the lands of the Forgotten Realms fondly,

And the treasures you seek there fill your coin purses promptly,

May your party’s bard seek romancing monsters with care,

So that the cleric can enjoy play beyond just healthcare,

May your druid enjoy all the varieties of wild shaping,

But not enough that the fighter mistakes them for a creature escaping,

May your monk’s magic ki grant them many flurries of blows,

And your rogue has the dexterity scores to blend into shadows,

May the righteousness of your paladin hit your enemies with smite,

While the fireball of the wizard sets all of them alight,

May the arrows fly true from your ranger’s bow drawn,

While your party’s barbarian defeats many with their brawn,

May your sorcerer’s wild magic only roll positive effects,

And that all of your party succeeds their skill checks.

May all of the ale at the taverns flow freely,

And the rumors from the barkeep are true and come cheaply,

May the dwarven kings always reward with their favor,

And your party’s resolve in battle never starts to waver,

May your enemies be easy to locate and track,

And may those dozens of weapons fit in your pack,

May the town’s children not be demons in disguise,

And those fancy treasure chests be not Mimics and your demise,

May you solve all the puzzles and find the secret doors,

And quickly find the rich NPC’s hidden coin stores,

May every chandelier you find be sturdy and swing free,

And the prophecies abound that your victory foresee,

May you find the focus to complete the main quest,

And then conquer the BBEG’s most difficult test.

May all your players show up to every game,

And your amazing DM put ever Mercer to shame,

May your dice be faithful and always roll high,

And your pencil not smudge your sheets and cause you to cry,

May the Zoom connection stay strong and not freeze in a fight,

And may every campaign excite you and set your imagination alight.

May your party be regularly available and show up on time,

And may your DM finally get to be a player, at least for one time,

May hours of adventure and fun fill your game night,

And Patrick Rothfuss, his next book, will finally get to write.

May you find D&D fill your game days with wonder,

And the courage you find there pulls all your fears asunder,

May you find strength in yourself through playing the game,

And your own hopes and dreams you find the courage to reclaim,

May your reality be filled with adventures and fun,

And your party and friends are together and one,

With Dungeons and Dragons, together we play,

Our fears and unhappiness, together we slay.

May the tabletop bring you much joy in the new year,

This is my wish for you with much love and good cheer.
